U.S. Corporations Improve Waistline & Bottom Line
List of 2010 "Healthiest Companies in America" Announced
Arlington Heights, Ill., February 16, 2011 –U.S. Corporations have proven again that a healthier waistline translates into a healthier bottom line. Interactive Health Solutions announced today a list of companies that earn top national honors for improving employee health while considerably lowering healthcare costs. The “Healthiest Companies in America” for 2010 is a group of 44 corporations who have significantly reduced healthcare costs through employee participation in a prevention-based health program in the workplace.
The Healthiest Companies in America for 2010 rankings are based on a series of clinical evaluations of employee participants across an index of key health indicators designed by Interactive Health Solutions (IHS) of Arlington Heights, IL, the leading provider of population health management programs to companies throughout the U.S.
“As the nation continues to focus on healthcare costs, we see population health management programs in the workplace becoming more and more crucial for both employers and employees,” said Joe O’Brien, Interactive Health Solutions Chief Executive Officer. “We know that 15% of employees at most companies accrue 78% of all medical costs. But the data shows that through proactive engagement in preventive healthcare, smart companies can start changing those numbers for the better. Obviously healthier employees don’t just benefit their companies. These programs save lives as well as money, it’s that simple,” O’Brien added.
According to a study by The American Journal of Health Promotion, employers who invested in worksite heath promotion saw a 28% reduction in sick leave absenteeism; 26% reduction in use of health care benefits; a 30% reduction in worker’s comp claims and disability management; and an average $5.93-to $1 savings-to-cost ratio.
Everyone Benefits from Better Health Information
Comprehensive preventative health programs provide testing that focuses on specific medical problems that are contributors to high medical costs and low employee productivity. IHS research indicates that in a typical company 58% of employees have medical conditions that are unknown and/or not being treated, and require some type of medical intervention. The IHS program serves as a healthcare “early warning system” for both employers and employees. The program finds important health warning symptoms and indicators before they become a treatable disease. Employees are assessed before they are symptomatic, rather than after they become ill and start incurring medical costs, and before their lives are in danger.
Interactive Health Solutions, Inc. (IHS) provides turnkey population health management programs to companies nationwide. Program services are clinically based and fully HIPAA compliant. The year-round IHS program includes annual, on-site health evaluations; individualized health goals; in-person courses and online information about specific conditions; as well as full program administration, record keeping and reporting. IHS employs a national staff of medical professionals (physicians, phlebotomists, counselors, nurses and others) that administer the tests. IHS then reviews and recommends courses of action. The company maintains a comprehensive database and a virtual medical file for each participant. For more information, contact IHS at 800-840-6100, or visit www.healthiestcompanies.com.
